Friends Meet Chandy....

Often times when Bob and I chat I like to play the 3 choice game...
  • 3 of your best decisions...
  • 3 of your happiest moments
  • 3 qualities to describe me...(this is for sure my favorite)
and usually after a sigh and some grunts he realizes I wont stop until he gives me three words.

Last time we played...he said STUBBORN! Loud, quickly and very decisively. I didn't think I appreciated it very much...but in all honesty I am. I guess maybe more impatient but either way once I decide on something I want it NOW.

I'm learning to adjust because I want this house to be a fun project for us, that we take our time with. Insert hatred of all things brushed nickel. GAG. SO LAME. I'm not sure what you would consider our traditional with a pop of fun, eclectic-ish. I don't particularly liked brushed nickel, and have my heard set on bronze throughout the house. YAY!

Well I am a budget friendly kinda gal...changing all hardware and fixtures in this house is most definitely not in the need-it-now I did what I always do when I want some stalk!!!!!

I decided to start in the dining room...

If the world was perfect, the above baby would sit beautifully over my dining room table. But because the world is realistic and I'm not able to justify this purchase....God Gave me Krylon. I guess not technically, but he helped someone create it and ultimately make me a happier human.

SO....gross ugly brushed nickel.....

Pretty Oil Rubbed Bronze Bad Boy Sexy Lady....Miss Chandy.

Do you see Boss's Kennel?? It TOTALLY makes the dining room! You should all go out and get one ;)

and just for paneled wall made an well as some hideous Nike Chanclas...

So...$230 dream chandy or $5 fix so I can continue my DIYing on a budget.
Have you met me?!

Paint really transforms a room! And its C-H-E-A-P

Lessons Learned:
1.) Have FIL Supervise projects so he can hang chandy in garage (as well as take some action shots)
2.) For surfaces you don't touch frequently, I'd cut out the Primer...but since I primed who knows what difference it made.
3.) Remove object that usually live in places for pictures....ahh NVM this is real life!

SO what do you think? Go try it! It's fun. And CHEAP. And makes a big up is ALL my door knobs, and believe it or not I'm going to try to do my ceiling fans...

"Hey Coach! What's For Lunch!?"

In the mornings at my school, we read the lunch menu for the kids in the announcements. It's broadcasted to every classroom and it gives me 5 minutes to shine. One day, our awesome science teacher belted out an intro for me, "Hey Coach!...."(and you know the rest is history) I'm pretty much a celebrity now and the kids yell at this phrase to me at all random times of the day. At times this is quite comical.
IE: :me yelling at a kid and putting him in timeout with my most stern look on my face:
enter random 4th grader walking into the gym "Hey Coach! WHATS FOR LUNCH!?"

So that's my intro funny story to this blog.

Wait, what exactly am I supposed to be blogging about? My roommate is upstairs working out so I dare not bother her. Ah yes, I am the "change of pace" that brings in a slightly different perspective of what's going on in our life.

House projects are great. I am beyond thrilled how great of a job Mon has done and excited for many more DIYs. However, we just had a weekend were there were no paint brushes, wood, or nails in plain sight and it felt GREAT. I did mow the lawn and man, I tell ya, there is nothing more manly than taking care of your lawn. I went to Home Depot yesterday and bought an awesome edition to my weedeater and fixed my blower. Me and Frank (Mower Department) bonded for 15 minutes talking about how he had tons of experience with fixing and using weedeaters because of all his hours at community service.

(Okay, this is not Frank, but very similar and I'm sure just as helpful.)

As I write this, I see dark clouds in the window. Little things like this make me excited now because I want to have the thickest/greenest grass in the hood. One day I will get Yard of the Month.

And it all started like this...

Mon: Wanna create a blog together?
Bob: Yea.....(while not listening and 100% watching tv)
Mon: Okay YAY!

Thus Tackling Home was born.

Look around a little and make ya-self at home! We are going to team up and do a better job of chronicling our misadventures creating our customized dream home outta a builders model.

First up...paneling. MmM. I have many times professed my love for all things molded, paneled, bead-boarded....its so...BEAUTIFUL!

So with some inspiration from two ladies who DIYed it...I entrusted my FIL and Husband to make my dreams come true....

Gross boring entry way...

Said Husband and FIL got to work...

400 rounds of wood filling, sanding, caulking and painting later....

And just so you don't have to scroll back up...

What a difference it makes! We still are going to switch up the decor on top...I'm not sure what I want to live there and there will be a long entry way table, but this little guy has a home for now and we are going to put in hooks.

like so....

but I'm 100% pleased and ready to take this look to more rooms.

If you are anything like me, projects cost money and you wanna know how much...
Lumber - $80
Trim Paint - $25
Nail Glue - $5

Some disclaimers...we put this directly on the wall therefore did without the piece behind and we went with a cheaper wood that had to be wood filled and treated with some TLC. Budget-wise it worked for us. You may have the funds to go on with ya bad self!

We are debating if we would like to continue this look on the bar back or if we want to do some bead board instead. I'll keep yall posted.

So there ya have it. Big house project #1...if you don't count cutting a huge hole in my back door for the "kids" to go in and out of as one?

Munchos Gracias for stopping by. Hopefully we can keep you entertained.

Peace, Love and DIY!!
